About Moi

My name is Michelle, and I live in the Southern US.  I'm just your typical, boring, middle-aged woman.  This blog is about me and my typical, boring, middle-aged life.  I'm married with dogs, live in the country, work in higher ed, and blah, blah, blah.  That's it about me.  But, oh...the reason for this blog.

I have been selected as one of the 25 staff members at my job selected to participate in the Staff Development Program (SDP).  The program focuses on three areas:  professional development, service development (volunterism), and personal development.  For ten months (July '15 - April '16), I have goals that I will need to accomplish in each of the three areas to successfully complete the program.  These are goals that I chose for myself and that were approved by the program committee.  Of course, I am an overachiever in planning and an underachiever in action.  There is a high level of accountability with this program.  The committee will monitor my progress through the program and will help me if I get off track or run into issues.  However, if I don't succeed, it will be my own fault.

Some areas that will require incredible attention and time that I will focus on over the next 10 months are:
  1. Prepare/study and take/pass the Professional in Human Resources certification
  2. Develop core-curriculum training material for my peers and co-workers
  3. Work with an incredible lady who has very limited reading and writing ability
  4. Walk 1,000 miles
  5. Eliminate unheatlhy, processed foods from my diet in an effort to lose weight.
  6. Complete a 5k
  7. Read 2 personal development books
There are many other goals, but the time commitment is not as intense as these ones mentioned below.  All of this is in addition to my normal work tasks and personal life.  I recognize that each month will need a very firm plan of action and that will have to be broken down weekly.  See my Goals & Priorities page for the monthly plan.

I will be following the Whole30 plan which eliminates grain, dairy, sugar, legumes, and processed crap from the diet. I am an ice cream fanatic.  I would eat it every day of every week.  And, there have been weeks that I have.  It's definitely caught up with me and eventually, I want to get 150 pounds of excess weight off.  I want to increase my mobility and stamina.  I'm not getting any younger and I see myself on a path that I'll be one of those Jazzy Scooter crazy women in Wal Mart if I don't do something about it.

So...that's that.
